Ratify ADP Tanzania

In Tanzania, more than 3.3 million people have a disability. Join our campaign to ratify the African Disability Protocol in the country to protect their human rights.

Ratify ADP Tanzania is a coalition campaign run by organisations of people with disabilities in Tanzania and Zanzibar, and supported by Sightsavers.

We’re fighting to ensure the rights of people with disabilities across Tanzania are protected by law.

In Tanzania, many people with disabilities, particularly those from rural communities or marginalised groups such as people with albinism, are denied their right to health, education and employment, because of stigma, discrimination and negative perceptions.

Ratifying the African Disability Protocol, which is a legal framework that addresses discrimination affecting people with disabilities, will be a significant first step towards promoting and protecting people’s rights in the country.

How we campaign in Tanzania

Supporting ratification

The coalition, led by local organisations of people with disabilities, is supporting the Office of the Prime Minister towards ratification.

Amplifying people’s voices

We amplify the voices of people with disabilities from Tanzania and Zanzibar, and share their stories through media engagement.

Partner organisations have participated in national consultations and worked directly with the Tanzanian government.

Drafting policy papers

The partnership has drafted policy papers to demonstrate the importance of ratification to decision-making audiences.
