Equal World youth champions tell UN Civil Society Conference more needs to be done

May 2024

Equal World youth champions tell UN Civil Society Conference that more needs to be done to include young people with disabilities.

Two of Equal World’s youth champions have told world leaders that not enough is being done to include young people with disabilities in international development. Youth champions Tapiwa Mutsikira and Lydia Rosasi attended the UN Civil Society Conference in Nairobi, Kenya on 9-10 May 2024. At the event they demanded the meaningful inclusion of young people with disabilities in global decision-making and for world leaders to take action.

Tapiwa spoke as a panellist in one of the side events at the conference, which focused on the inclusion of young people with disabilities, specifically in the context of the Summit of the Future and its outcomes.

In his passionate speech, Tapiwa emphasised the importance of including young with disabilities in future planning. He said: “It is important to always remember us, as we can also contribute to a better world.” This message resonated with attendees and highlighted the need for inclusivity and diversity in all aspects of society.
