The situation

There are 18 million people with a disability living in Pakistan and with contributing factors including conflict, natural disasters, road accidents and poverty, that number is on the rise. Many people are being prevented from going to school, gaining employment and accessing basic healthcare, leaving them trapped in a cycle of poverty with no means to challenge discrimination in a court of law.

What we campaigned for

We supported the work of activists in Pakistan to push for a legal system that fully protects the rights of people with disabilities. Disability groups in the country lobbied tirelessly to get Pakistan’s first National Disability Bill passed into law and in January 2020, the goal was achieved!
